IBM Announces Internet Of Things Cloud Services

IBM has announced its approach to marketing of services in the cloud for Bluemix Internet of Things (IoT) with the Internet of Things IBM service of the Foundation on the basis of its Smarter Planet initiative. The company says that its Internet-Service-Things IBM Foundation enables a developer to extend quickly and easily on Internet-connected device, such as a sensor or controller in the cloud and create a device application to collect data and send knowledge to real-time business promoter.

IBM promotes its cloud services as standard Bluemix to build open cloud platform manage and execute all applications for Web,Mobile,Big Data and Smart devices.Big Blue says its Internet service offers fast access to the Foundation's activities and provides valuable insights into the data IO device from billions of Internet-connected sensors and controllers.

The firm cited IDC estimates that there are already nine billion IoT devices in the world, and that there will be as many as 28 billion IoT devices by 2020.IBM foresees that by providing IoT devices connectivity in cloud services, equipment and asset manufacturers can use IoT to provide remote service and monitoring to residential and commercial customers, oil and gas companies can remotely monitor and provide predictive maintenance to critical equipment, and logistics companies can track and monitor the condition of goods in transit, as just some of the industrial, consumer services and financial applications of IoT-enabled systems.

Think of the IoT Foundation as an extremely fast on-ramp to the cloud for the millions of intelligent IoT devices that are now being shipped, and the billions already internet connected, said IBM Internet of Things VP John R.Thompson.IBM said it plans to enlist partners for its IoT efforts, which it expects will include ARM,B&B Electronics, Elecsys, Intel,Multi-Tech Systems and Texas Instruments.Along with these partners,it plans to develop a set of certified instructions,or recipes" for connecting IoT devices, sensors and gateways.IBM Bluemix cloud services are already available for developers worldwide, and the IBM Internet of Things Foundation will be available from 21 October. you will need an IBM account to participate, of course.

IBM-Apple App Deal for Businesses Hits Snag as China Spurns IPad

International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) 's goal of dominating the business applications market through an alliance with former rival Apple Inc. (AAPL) hit a snag where IBM has faced challenges: China. The Chinese government excludes Apple products like the iPad and iPad Minis from the list of products that can be purchased with public funds for security reasons, according to government officials familiar with the matter. This means that business applications software for IBM builds tablets may encounter obstacles to reach the booming Chinese corporate market.

The Chinese government has U.S. technology companies with the exception of publicly-funded purchases and examined the dependence of foreign products tensions rise between the countries over claims of hacking and cyber-espionage. The movement against Apple products could deter potential corporate customers that IBM has to expand its mobile phone business.Large companies tend to buy in China, where the government takes over, Frank Gillett, an analyst at Forrester Research Inc.said in an interview. It is a point of national pride here. I would expect the pattern to continue.

Lia Davis, a spokesman for IBM in Armonk York, NY-based, declined to comment on the decision of the Chinese government. Kristin Huguet, a spokeswoman for Apple, in Cupertino, California, declined to comment.China is for the company IBM portable device market becoming increasingly important, especially after announcing an alliance with Apple last month to develop software and services-centric iPhone and iPad devices for businesses manage. If you have a mobile phone manufacturer whose products many workers already use personally was the agreement to be a big boost for mobile long-term effort by IBM.

China Revenue

While smartphones are not listed Chinese government last month, the state China Central Television that features Apple iPhone software can lead to leakage of state secrets. Apple denied these claims. For tablets in China, the commercial market with a high rate of growth remains, said IDC analyst Frank Wang in a research note on July 11. Shipments of tablets to businesses rose 14 percent in May compared with the previous year.

Dependent on China for about 16 percent of its $ 37.4 billion in sales last quarter Apple, data compiled by Bloomberg. IPad sales in the world's largest market increased by 51 percent, said CEO Tim Cook July 22.Apple is just the latest U.S. technology company tested by the Chinese government after revelations Edward Snowden passed a program of NSA spying and the U.S. announcement May over allegations of tax of five Chinese military for allegedly stealing corporate secrets face year.

IBM adds Elastic Storage to its SoftLayer cloud infrastructure

IBM transformation of the way that the cloud storage makes. Download to approximately $ 1.2 million required to take 90 percent savings for the establishment of information centers income of the country where they are needed, Big Blue now offers a new way, hardware / software / hybrid cloud storage and user a cube.

The key to all this is new storage-as-a-Service software from IBM defines the elastic cloud storage so-called. This is a new feature, Soft Layer, IBM acquired the company last year, and their technology is now the basis for their efforts in the cloud provides. The new capacity is expected to be a consequence of the system of data management Watson, the famous ass kicked humanity in the game of Jeopardy television TV.Elastic Storage is basically a rebranded GPFS, and the service offers the following:
  • SoftLayer bare metal resources
  • High performance data management
  • InfiniBand link to and between clustered servers
  • Movement of data between customer’s on-premises infrastructure and the cloud

Customers can take advantage of the connections of direct links between IBM and points of presence, SoftLayer data centers provide dedicated private connections. It is likely that the availability of these will run as IBM provides SoftLayer's data centers worldwide, although the methods of access to Ford Transit vans (FTVAL) is likely to be faster and more cost-effective when it comes to load up very large amounts of data.
IBM says elastic cloud support has been optimized for analytic workloads and technical tasks, such as credit risk management, financial analysis, genomics, scientific research and seismic processing computer.

She adds that customers to fully support cluster-ready to run complete with elastic storage, IBM Platform LSF and Platform Symphony software management workload and bare metal SoftLayer infrastructure to implement their applications.Although IBM claims the cost savings, a quick look at prices makes eyes water. The service starts at a whopping $ 13,735 per 100 TB per month. Compare that with SoftLayer shop prices of items, starting at $ 0.04/GB/month - or $ 4,096 for 100 TB per month after our rusty math. However, the additional fee of 9k or so you get the full support, software licenses and access to SoftLayer's infrastructure..

IBM announces revolutionary System x generation with modular design, 12 TB flash on memory bus

IBM today announced a complete redesign of your family system 86 server, with up to 12.8 TB of NAND flash memory directly on the bus of the server and a modular structure, the user,to allow the server upgrade by simply replacing plug in books Calculate. This sixth generation of system x has six basic reference architectures, including one for SAP HANA is designed to virtualize ERP and other large applications at the level of fundamental company for delivery by private and hybrid clouds easier. The scalable design also can reduce the cost of acquiring up to 28 percent compared to competitive x86 Xeon says IBM.

The announcement includes a new System x3850 M4 server BD storage, server rack has two sockets supporting up to 14 flash and hard drives with up to 56 TB of storage with high density. This server combines the screen with memory is specially designed Big Data facilities for large deployment architectures such as Hadoop,It also includes the new IBM System Flash 840,double the bandwidth and IOPS performance 1.1 M offers like its predecessor, the 820 flash system.Supports up to 48 TB of usable capacity in a 2U unit with IBM Microlatency technology reduces access time to data microseconds.Designed to handle large amounts of data , actionable provides information to analyze data in real time faster than their predecessors. It also features a new graphical user interface for managing data centers and advanced features such as hot-swappable and load the same code components and enables rapid deployment and ease of management.

Virtualize your ERP for the cloud

The x6 system is the first server in the family, which was effectively designed from the ground up to integrate flash memory.Previously,Flash memory is a kind of add-on adds a PCI card with the server. This is the integration of the flash memory bus that the high-speed bus in the system, and a block memory device, such as other storage medium in block appears therefore the application.

Flash memory bus, which is the world's fastest flash memory And these new systems can support a large amount of the same .

It looks exactly like a DDR3 DIMM.These systems will have 92 DIMM slots on a four track so it can hold up to 6 terabytes of memory in a four way, support 12 terabytes in one of the eight positions. This is three times more storage than on the server by eight standard positions today.
This has important implications for big data analytics and virtualization of large enterprise applications such as ERP. If you want that in the analysis server applications, database caching five terabytes, you can configure it as a cache. For example in the SAP HANA appliance a lot of that used space for RAM allowing users to have a very large set in HANA,while still large amounts of Flash for the start-up scene data data. HANA  or extension of a similar system on multiple servers to support large databases on the memory bus and provides resiliency and redundancy in case of a hardware or power on each server.

Before generating x6, users could with memory restrictions on what they could virtualize. If a four-way server that supports only one or two terabytes of memory it is hard to virtualize had a terabyte application. Now they can do in these new platforms. This is the way for virtualization of ERP systems including Oracle Red Stack now running on the bare metal so that customers realize the benefits of server virtualization and service-based ERP and other systems important for users by their private Clouds.I want to spend my large databases to a cloud model.Want to move my SAP HANA to a cloud model.Want to spend my large ERP applications.Want it does not have to re-design for a new architecture I would now like to spend, and this provides the infrastructure to do that,

Booking” your memory, flash, CPUs

The other part of the revolution x6 is the new parallel modular design,IBM servers called Compute the Books. Each are these plug- and-play modules that plug each with its own processor and memory. These in a motherboard. This means that a server upgrade or replacement of a unit is not just a matter of separating one or more modules and plug replacement. Then a simple reboot the new hardware without requiring a replacement forklift and the whole administration that goes along with that.IBM estimates that the central server will support at least the next three generations of processors and memory technology/Flash.
"As soon as the server Architected and puts his large applications on it two years from now, when you say Scotty , I need more power just pull the plug Compute books and the last not the biggest in.It's all transparent to the IO line.It provides a lot of investment protection through generations.
And although it requires that the updated server is restarted because it is a virtualized environment and are virtualized now this great applications that you have not, application downtime.

Six reference architectures

As part of the announcement,IBM also announced six pre-architected versions that come with software installed: an SQL data Warehouse a Hyper-V appliance running on Windows Server an SAP HANA version an SAP Business Suite version, a VMware vCloud, and finally a version running DB2 with BLU acceleration on Linux. The servers come with either SUSI or Red Hat Linux or Microsoft Server. While IBM does not have a reference architecture for it Oracle has System x on its compatibility list,so users can also run an Oracle Red Stack on the new System x.And because of the higher end processors and the large amounts of memory and flash storage that the new generation supports, they can decrease the number of licenses they need, saving significant cost, particularly with Oracle. And System x also runs IBM Watson for users who want that in-house rather than using it from IBM’s cloud.
